“Dan In Real Life” was probably written during the writer’s strike

I just saw Dan In Real Life. WHAT AN AWFUL MOVIE.

First off, I hated the leading lady two seconds into her intro monologue, not because of the actress but because of the insipidness of her character. Oh, you want a book that is like, nine hundred different things at once? And that’s supposed to make me think you’re an interesting character of some sort? Not A Good Sign.

Secondly, there’s a dinner party where they interrogate the woman because she’s just so fascinating… but she’s NOT FASCINATING. She’s boring and talks a lot and just babbles about nothing particularly interesting at all. I don’t care what her perfect day is, and I certainly wouldn’t ask that of a sibling’s new girlfriend. And! Having lived in Thailand doesn’t make you a Good Person!

Thirdly, the part where Dan takes his daughter driving and yells at her about being a student driver? Not even in the movie.

Brandon and I agreed that the only good parts of the movie involved Dan and his children. The rest just sucked, sucked, sucked. Sucked.

(The best part of the movie was a tie between “You’re a murderer of love!!!” and when, at the end of the movie, I said “That was a terrible movie” while the woman behind me declared how great it was.)
